“JAADU KI JHAPPI” : WE NEED MORE HUGS & CUDDLES

The warmth of a touch, the feeling of love, care and concern all transmitted in a single moment. Words don’t matter then, the reason why becomes oblivious, and it is possible to get peace, affection, and even strength in that single gesture.

A child is given immediately into the mother’s arms as soon as it is born. The protection and comfort it feels within the womb has to be replicated for it to stop crying and it does. It’s that one moment of extreme love that initiates the lactation too. Science is still deciphering the exact neurological and chemical reactions within the body that produce oxytocin.

“We need to do it more often….” my son suddenly stopped midway as he realized the monster he had unleashed. I didn’t even wait a second to smother him with all the kisses I could. “Stop MOM!! All I said that was we can be a little more physically affectionate, instead of waiting for the birthday and bye-bye hugs before we travel.” I had this wide grin plastered on my face. I had given up when he had started getting embarrassed when he turned an adult, allowing me to hug him only because he knew I missed cuddling my daughter who was away at collage. Now I was secretly happy that he had missed it too.

Yup! It’s true! Men miss hugs as much, it’s just that they refuse to admit it nor do they ask for it unlike us women who don’t hesitate even a bit before saying, “I need a hug.” They miss out on the precious hormones that could calm their frayed nerves, tensed minds and tired bodies. Unfortunately in days gone by, it wasn’t considered a manly thing to do and they lost the bonds that could have been forged. The women on the other hand get luckier with the children, they have many more to hold, more to cuddle. That’s the thing with the new age dads, they get to enjoy all these benefits with the kids unlike their previous counterparts and when they do, they get even luckier, cause they get one from the wife even without asking for it.

It is the “Jaadu ki Jhappi” started by Rajkumari Hirani’s film, Munnabhai MBBS that gave rise to the accepting the need, the inclination and the happiness that results out of these hugs. So don’t hold back the love, show it. It’s a gesture that will take of a lot of stress, pent up emotions, and even give a possibility of bonding between strained relationships.

With Valentine’s Day not far away , use the excuse and give the Jhappi away.
