Did you know that it’s the greens more than any other food that plays a huge part in your mental well-being? All the green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, coriander, lettuce not only contain vitamins and iron but also act as a catalyst to absorb proteins and carbs and thereby activating the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is most know for the calming effect of serotonin that it has on the mind.
So do try having that palak(spinach) soup at dinner time and watch it work magic on your frayed nerves. That salad that you keep avoiding might infact, work the best magic at night by reducing your dinner proportions. The greens in the spinach leaves, lettuce or arugula serve in the clearance of the stomach waste too.
Having greens reduces the chances of flatulence and acidity as the fiber takes care of proper bowel movements. A happy stomach itself ensures a calm state of mind. Vit B6 is essential for the sex hormone function. It is a known fact that sex elevates moods and increases the hormone oxytocin which is also called the love or cuddle hormone. Greens are known for their antioxidant properties which alkalize the body creating a feeling of wellbeing. Vit C raises immunity levels, lowering the fatigue of the muscles and increasing the fighting capacity of the body. Folate is required for protein metabolism and development of nerve cells. Vit K is called the life hormone as it helps in clotting of the blood when there is an open wound, be it a scratch or a cut.
Greens have it all really. RiboflavinB2, NiacinB3 PyridoxinB6, folic acid B9, Vitamin C, Vit A, Vit K and iron to name a few along with its fibrous structure it is something every diet and every dietician will subscribe to have. So be ecologically and biologically savvy…go green!
